Keeping your British rally Championship options open with Race and Rally

The British Rally Championship has undergone a fairly radical swing in popularity over the years and since its “revival” in 2016, numbers have declined and perception began to wane. Now, that opinion is unfair in many ways as the action on the stages has been second to none with rallies and championships won by tenths of a second. Add to that a decent class structure including some good prizes for progressive Juniors and it has all the makings of a top-class series.

In 2021, and arguably thanks to the Irish Tarmac Championship not running, interest is once again picking up.

A seven round, mixed surface championship in each of the four nations has raised some eyebrows on both sides of the water thanks to:

  • Some impressive names have put their hat into the ring already with more to come
  • A “catch all” category structure which allows ANYONE to contest the series –
  • A stonking World Rally Championship prize drive for the Junior BRC Champion
  • Free entries to the 2022 rounds for the Academy Trophy Champion a
  • Probably more we don’t know about…

So? What has this got to do with Race and Rally?

Well…actually quite a lot.

You may – or may not know that we are the UK and Ireland distributors for:

Peugeot Sport

Citroen Racing

Opel Motorsport

And that means we have quite an offering for this year’s BRC.

Check out what’s eligible from our stable below:

BRC 1 - Rally2 or R5 (For clarity, the FIA are renaming all “R” cars into “Rally” so from here on in we will refer to them in their new categories where applicable)

The overall BRC champion is likely to come from BRC1 and there are a host of eligible cars from the PSA Group garages

Citroen Racing C3 Rally2

Citroen Racing DS3 Rally2

Peugeot Sport 208 Rally2

BRC 3 – Rally3 or R3

Whilst Rally3 and R3 are very different beasts, they are lumped together in the BRC

Citroen Racing DS3 R3 / MAX

BRC 4 – Rally 4 or R2 (JUNIOR & ACADEMY)

Whilst they have a class of their own, BRC 4 also houses the Junior BRC category and Academy. Junior BRC caters for all R2 and Rally4 cars whilst the Academy, designed for newcomers and under 25’s can use R2’s homologated before 2019.

Citroen Racing C2R2 MAX            Junior & Academy

Peugeot Sport 208 R2                   Junior & Academy

Peugeot Sport 208 Rally 4            Junior Only

Opel Motorsport Corsa Rally 4    Junior Only

BRC 5 – Rally5 and R1

Not aware of any of these in the UK/Ireland but happy to be proved wrong!

Citroen Racing DS3 R1

National Rally Championship

This category is open for any MSUK vehicle with a technical passport and WRC’s up to 2016. It also includes those R5’s that have been converted to Right hand drive – so the world is your oyster here.

Got a DS3 WRC tucked in the garage – now is your chance!

If we can help with parts, technical or sales support of any current breed of PSA Group motorsport machinery, please do get in touch.
