Race and Rally NI Ltd, the current distributors of Peugeot Sport and Citroen Racing for the UK and Ireland have added another innovative brand from the PSA Group stable to their network, becoming distributors for Opel Motorsport in 2021.
Thanks to its long association with Citroen Racing that stems back to 2005, Race and Rally will now be the UK and Ireland contact for all Opel Motorsport sales and technical enquiries and responsible for the distribution of the all-new Opel e-Corsa and Opel Corsa Rally 4, becoming the point of contact for all Opel Motorsport enquiries in the UK and Ireland.
Announced in August 2019, Opel became the first manufacturer to present an all-electric rally car, with the Corsa-e set to be part of several European single-make series’ in 2021. The 50kWH battery-powered rally car, based on the road-going version produces an impressive 136hp with 260Nm of torque to the front wheels.
After a recent test in Pferdsfeld, Germany, the all-electric Corsa covered over 1500kilometers of running with no reported issues, paving the way for a ground-breaking championship for electric-only vehicles next year.
Following closely in its wheel-tracks, Opel Motorsport has been working on a new proposition to replace the outgoing ADAM R2, electing to choose the new Corsa for the latest Rally4 category which replaces the R2 sector.
The Corsa Rally4 features an efficient yet powerful 1.2-litre turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol engine based on the standard unit, returning an impressive 208Hp and 290 Newton meters of torque, coupled with a five-speed Sadev sequential transmission.
After several months of testing in France on both gravel and asphalt surfaces, Opel Motorsport is set to begin manufacture of customer vehicles ahead of the new year.
The introduction of the Opel Motorsport brand to the UK and Ireland is an exciting prospect for Managing Director Raymond Moore of distributors Race and Rally.
