To build on the successful careers of the emblematic 205, 206 and 207, Peugeot has designed the 208.  With the 208 R2, Peugeot Sport offers competition customers an affordable and competitive model which stands out as the ideal choice for those who want to get their first taste of rallying or simply enjoy their passion.  In a highly competitive market, the little lion has become the new benchmark in its category in terms of performance, reliability and also running costs.  On this last point, the 208 R2 makes life so much easier for owners by using as many shared parts as possible to convert the car from gravel to tarmac configurations.

Structure: Equipped with a body shell reinforced with a multi-point, welded roll cage, the 208 R2 is a leap forward in terms of safety and rigidity compared to its competitors thanks to a new manufacturing process.

Lightweight: The 208's body shell alone is approximately 40 kg lighter than that of the 207!  In addition, the 208's overall volumes are one of the R2's main assets, while its long wheelbase ensures excellent chassis stability.  Weight-saving work on the structure has lowered the centre of gravity further, optimised where the weight is located and reduced the intrinsically low inertia of this car with its short overhangs.  All of these features combine to provide the 208 R2 with excellent road holding.

Modern Engine: For the competition version of this engine, Peugeot Sport started from scratch and redefined the EP6C naturally aspirated 1600 engine incorporating the new features related to the series engine, which include low fuel consumption and low CO2 emissions.  Equipped with specific pistons, conrods and camshafts, this ultra-modern engine comes with variable valve timing (VVT) for the intake and exhaust.  The kits will be sold with the engine built, run-in and checked on the dyno.

Innovative Gearbox: A significant development for a car in this category is the sequential manual control lever mounted directly on the steering column, identical to that of the 207 S2000.  The lever is shorter, lighter and positioned in line with the gearbox for greater precision for changing the 5 gears.  The gearbox features an innovative air cooling system, with fins built into the front part providing a significant weight saving.

High-Precision Control

High-Performance Suspension: Peugeot Sport uses proven three-way adjustable dampers, plus a specific adjustable hydraulic bumb stop, which has been developed for the 208 R2 with Öhlins.  The 208 R2 also features a specific wishbone arrangement which increases suspension travel.  This increased travel improves traction and therefore the car's performance on all terrains.

Hydraulic Steering: It is also specific to the 208 R2.  The R2 version uses hydraulic power steering and a rack with reduced gearing down for greater precision and driving comfort.  The drivers' expectations are met with more direct steering and better feedback of information in paticular on gravel.
