How to use a Frontal Head Restraint

A HANS device is designed to protect drivers and co-drivers in high-speed impacts, where the forces acting on the head and neck can be catastrophic. Even a well-belted driver wearing a certified helmet is vulnerable to basilar skull fracture (one of the leading causes of driver fatalities in motorsport) caused when the driver's head continues to travel forward while the body is restrained by the harness. 

The FHR device was developed specifically to address that risk. It is one of the most significant advances in driver safety since the introduction of the full-face helmet, and understanding it properly is essential for any competitor serious about protection.
