Setting Up with the BG Racing String Kit

The BG Racing String Kit (and the smaller String Line Kit with paired reels) is one of the most used items in any club race team's pit toolbox. It’is used for static four wheel alignment checks, particularly toe and tracking, by running a reference line parallel to the centreline of the car. 

Unlike floor-mounted alignment systems, the BG Racing frames attach directly to the vehicle using rubber-coated hooking arms, so the strings stay set as the suspension settles. 

• Park the car on a flat, level surface at ride height with the wheels straight ahead, ideally on turn plates or slip plates 

• Open the bonnet and boot, then attach the front and rear adjustable frames to the vehicle using the hooking arms, with the protective rubber contact points against the bodywork Adjust the boss units and string bars so the strings sit at hub height and run parallel to the centreline of the car 

• Use the pre-machined grooves on the string bars to locate the strings consistently each time Measure from each string to the leading and trailing edges of each wheel rim with a straightedge. The difference between the two readings is your toe value (positive = toe in, negative = toe out) 

• Adjust track rod ends until measurements are within the target range for your discipline 

The kit's hooking arms mean the strings stay in position as you roll or bounce the car between adjustments, which removes one of the biggest sources of error in DIY paddock alignment.

What is included with a BG Racing Steering Wheel Hub Kit?

Each hub kit ships as a complete bolt on item including the boss, mounting plate, fixings and an Allen key for installation. The hub fits between the existing column splines and your aftermarket steering wheel boss pattern, allowing a direct swap from the OEM wheel. 

What is the difference between a BG Racing String Kit and the String Line Kit?

The BG Racing String Kit is the full alignment set used for toe, tracking and four wheel alignment in the paddock. The String Line Kit (String Reels Pair) is the paired reels component on its own, useful as a replacement or for teams who already have the supporting hardware. For most teams setting up from scratch, the full string kit is the right option. 

Are BG Racing products designed for road use or competition?

The BG Racing motorsport equipment range is designed for competition and trackside use. Many products (paint pens, ramps, pressure gauges) work in any workshop environment, but the steering hub kits, spacers and quick release bosses are intended for race and rally use and may not be road legal depending on jurisdiction and vehicle type.
